This week's "Whiz Kid" is Nicole Boylan:
Age: 13
School: 8th grader at Nazareth Area Middle School
Community Organization: Volunteer at the Nazareth Area Food Bank
Accomplishments:
- National Junior Honor Society
- She wrote a poem that won honorable mention in the Young Pegasus Poetry Competition
- Nicole runs for the school's cross country team
- The 8th grader participates in Eagle Vision, Eagle Ambassadors, Student Council and Builders’ Club.
Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?):
Community, whether at school or at home, is a big part of Nicole’s life. A few times a month, Nicole and her family volunteer their time at the Nazareth Area Food Bank, where they help by sorting and placing food on shelves.
At school, Nicole delivers the weather on Eagle Vision, Nazareth Area Middle School's morning television news. Her time on the television program has Nicole thinking about being a meteorologist one day.
As an Eagle Ambassador, Nicole helps her classmates feel more “positive about being in school.” Eagle Ambassadors help students get to know each other, according to Nicole.
Nicole's secret to success?
"Just keeping a positive attitude and always looking out for others,” she said, adding that when you look out for others, they will be there for you when you need help.
