Introducing Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies is a new feature where we ask readers what they'd like to see in vacant storefronts in the Nazareth area.

I wrote a story yesterday about Goodfellas Pizzeria & Grill in downtown Nazareth suddenly closing its doors.

After about three years in business, the once-bustling storefront -- and the alluring smell of pizza and garlic knots -- is now a thing of the past.

Or is it?

There's no doubt that another business or restaurant -- or even another pizzeria -- may some day take the place of Goodfellas. But I'd like to know what you'd like to see in its place.

This is all part of a new feature Nazareth Patch -- and a lot of its sister sites -- is launching called "Visions for Vacancies" or "What Goes Here?"

So, think about what you'd like to see at this storefront, at 113 S. Main St. What does the neighborhood need that's not already there? Let us know in the comments.

Before any new vacancies are filled, the borough could pave the empty lot across the street, where the Commercial House once stood, with lights and security cameras, to provide ample, free parking. This would be a start. As far as what the borough needs in the GoodFellas space, the answer is NOT another pizza place, but perhaps a nice Mediterranean grill, coffee and bagel place with WiFi, or a used bookshop. Without safe, free parking though, it would be tough to compete with the shopping centers for any business!

Great ideas!

One thought: Have you tried NorFay Cafe yet? It has some Mediterranean flavor: http://patch.com/A-nbV9

We need another news agency! It would be perfect to have a place to go to to get a cup of coffee and listen to music.

@Mallory: I love the NorFay and have tried their offerings for breakfast and lunch, but Main St. Is a ghost town after dark, except for the dive bars and laundromat. I think that another news/book/coffee depot would complement the NorFay and start getting people in the habit of heading downtown, with families, much as The Quadrant does in Easton.

I think we need an organic store.

A news/book/coffee place would be nice. So would an ice cream store. Any place needs free WiFi. Any chance the borough could cover the entire downtown area?

I'll add my vote for a good second hand bookstore/coffee shop. Even better would be a specialty bookstore like murder inc / coffee shop.

That's still in business in a shopping center in Forks. With plenty of parking.

Unfortunately no one can afford rent. In addition to poor parking options, the landlords want too much rent for their properties so shops cannot stay in business long enough to begin to do well. They need to hire a downtown manager who works with everyone to make a successful downtown. Stroudsburg and Easton have both done this and their towns have been transformed.

I would like to see a produce market with good quality produce at reasonable prices like valley farm markets.
