Intoxicated Fort Bragg Soldier Accused of Assaulting Girlfriend

Eric Keith Fairman, 21, a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., and Nazareth alumnus, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend early Sunday in Upper Nazareth Township.

A U.S. Army soldier at Fort Bragg, N.C., was drunk when he hit his girlfriend in the face early Sunday outside a Fourth Street home in Upper Nazareth Township, court records say.

The suspect, Eric Keith Fairman, 21, is a 2009 graduate of Nazareth Area High School.

Fairman admitted to police during the weekend incident “he drank a lot this evening,” according to a criminal complaint filed by Upper Nazareth Officer David Gentile.

Fairman’s girlfriend told police she and Fairman were at a concert in Philadelphia and had been dropped off by a friend in the Fourth Street neighborhood. The complaint does not give the girlfriend’s address. It says police found the couple in front of 146 Fourth St.

The woman said she and Fairman “were walking around to talk” when he hit her. Police said the woman was “visibly upset,” had blood on her face and leg, her lip was puffy and her nose was swollen and bleeding.

Nazareth Ambulance treated the woman, then took her to St. Luke’s University Hospital-Anderson Campus in Bethlehem Township for evaluation.

According to Fairman's Facebook page -- some of his posts are public -- he is a cannon crewmember, a soldier who works the howitzer cannons that support infantry and tank units during combat, goarmy.com states.

Fairman was charged with simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. He was arraigned later Sunday by on-duty District Judge Joseph Barner of Lower Nazareth Township. He was briefly committed to Northampton County Prison before posting 10 percent of $5,000 bail, according to court records.

Why is it that whenever a service member does something wrong the media has to sensationalize the fact they are in the military? Couldn't the headline have been "Intoxicated Nazareth Man allegedly assaulted girlfriend"? It just seems that the media likes to give the military a black eye when it can. The media goes out of it's way to make it seem that all service members and veterans are violent. I know you'll say thats not the case but I have never seen a headline like "Intoxicated Rotor-Rooter Plumber allegedly assaulted girlfriend".

Well I happened to be there that night... While she repeatedly slapped and punch at times through put the night and and cause a huge embarrassment to us. All because he wouldn't argue in public. I am a combat veteran and self defense is a different story. I would never myself strike a woman and have been in a relationship where my girl friend hit me. But I seen what actually happened so if you have the gumption to tell someone to pick on someone there own size let alone someone who so selflessly was shot at and spent a year away from family and friends then you should sit back in your comfy chair and think about what you said. cause someone else is putting there life on the line so you can. .......By the way bob what's your name and address?

It's crazy how people are so quick to take the woman's side in a story like this. The media portrays males to be the bad person in most cases, but never really looks at the whole picture. I heard about this night from multiple witnesses, and the story seems to have been stretched, or warped by the minds of people who care a less about getting the actual truth. Eric Fairman has been made out to look like some crazed soldier, instead of the passive and warm hearted individual that he is. The article fails to mention how intoxicated his girlfriend was this night, or how many times he took a blow to the face prior to the police showing up. Hopefully the real truth comes out, and close minded people, like Bob here, open their eyes.
