When it comes to writing songs, according to Ray, he makes sure to attach great importance to words, sounds and their meanings, as he blends them with melodies.

A few of the musicians who have influenced Ray are Robert Johnson, Kelly Joe Phelps and John Butler. Ray has been inspired by several musical styles, including soul, funk, rock, grunge, metal and even hip hop -- yet he manages to play “beautiful melodies while telling enchanting stories” on his Weissenborn Slide Guitar.
